South African Police Arrested 200 Illegal Immigrants To Curb Xenophobic Violence

South African Police on Thursday arrested 200 illegal immigrants.  According to NAN, the arrest started after seven migrants from other African
countries were killed in xenophobic violence which occured last month.

The police spokesman, Kay Makhubela stated that the migrants were arrested in the Thembelihle informal settlement, South of Johannesburg, which had been identified as a criminal hotspot.


According to reports, South Africans accused migrants of taking scarce jobs, leading to attack of citizens of several African countries including Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Somalia and other countries in Johannesburg and Durban last month. South African police authorities have pledged to prevent such incidents, while the government announced the deployment of soldiers in parts of Johannesburg.


The  police seized a firmarm, drugs and pirated CDs.
