Woman Killed by Mob in Bauchi was not a Suicide Bomber

The woman who was beaten to death on sunday in Bauchi on suspicions of being a suicide bomber was actually mentally ill according to the police and family members.

Thabita Haruna,33, was attacked by a mob after she refused to be screened at a marketplace in Bauchi.

Police are investigating the attack and are yet to make any arrest.

Boko haram militants have been using women to carryout bombings in the northern part of Nigeria.The militants wants to impose a strict version of Islam and have declared a caliphate
in the territory under their control.

A witness said that Haruna came under suspicion when two bottles were found strapped to her waist. The mob set a tyre sprinkled with petrol around her head and set it alight after she was beaten.She was
already dead before the arrival of the police.


The family said she was a trader before she became ill in 2007."I feel so bad because she is my blood,we sleep in the same bed and eat from the same plate,its really painful" Haruna's sister said.

The people has so far condemned the act.
