Anambra state Governor, has inaugurated a seven-man board to superintend over activities
of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in the State.
This development is sequel to the various emergency situations in the state in areas of Health, Agriculture and Commerce.
Flood disaster hit several states of the Country but particularly shook Anambra in 2012, were eight Local Government Areas (LGA) were hugely affected sweeping away both Livestock and farmlands and leaving thousands homeless with poverty index hitting the sky.
On May 1, 2014, an emergency situation erupted in Anambra West LGA where Fulani herdsmen swooped on a community with machete and dealt deadly blow on them leaving one person dead and several others wounded. In another health disaster, there was a Cholera outbreak in Innoma community also in Anambra West LGA, in 2015, which claimed over eight lives due to lack of portable water.
In a bid to contain any further emergency situation, Governor Willie Obiano lead the team and has the Former Secretary to Anambra State Government, Mr Paul Odenigbo, as the board Secretary.
The Governor urged the member to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.
Governor Obiano also charged them to be anticipatory of any emergencies and set up preventive plans instead of being taken unawares and tolerating loss of lives and property.
